A Message from the Area Chair

Happy New Year!  I do hope you found enjoyment in the Festive Season despite all the difficulties which currently surround us.

With the coming of the New Year, firstly I would like to publicly record my thanks to all the North East Society Chairs and their Committees who have worked tirelessly to keep The Arts Society alive during 2020.  It has not been an easy task but it is one that all our members I am sure hugely appreciate.

With the gradual roll-out of the Covid vaccine, there is a chink of light at the end of the tunnel and I know that all our societies are planning towards that end.  As soon as it is permitted and it is deemed safe, our meetings will recommence and once more we will be able to meet up with friends old and new.  I am certain we are all looking forward enormously to that moment.

In the meantime, most of our societies have organised for their lectures to be given on-line via Zoom and I do urge you to listen and watch them whenever possible.  I agree it is not the same as being present at a ‘live lecture’, but I confess on a bitterly cold, frosty day in winter, it does have some appeal!

In addition to local lectures, don’t forget The Arts Society’s national website – www.theartssociety.org – has much to offer in the way of arts features so do have a look and see what appeals.

With my very best wishes for the year ahead.

With my best wishes

Lizzie Darbyshire
